1,700-year-old ancient school in Egypt

Archaeologists have recently discovered red letters written on walls and stone steps in a school believed to be built 1,700 years ago.

The trail of the school was discovered in the ancient town of Trimithis, in the present-day Amheida region, about 300km west of the Nile.This school was used for 20 years before it was closed and merged with another building.The school may be closed because the teachers either leave or die.In the picture is a classroom and the text on the wall is written by the teacher in red ink.

According to experts, schools operating during the Egyptian period are part of the Roman empire.Therefore, Greek is widely used during this time.In the excavation area, they found the words written in Greek on a wall with the content about the Odyssey.

On another wall, the red text content is prompting, asking students to practice their rhetoric skills and try to study hard.

The school has benches so students can sit and read books or stand up to write on the wall.Previously, archaeologists had discovered another old school in the city of Alexandria.However, it was very special to discover the school in Amheida with the words on the wall.These words have shown that educational activities have certainly existed since ancient times in this area.

When closed, the school is merged with a building with artistic architecture that is very diverse and colorful.Olympus gods in the picture (from left) are identified as Poseidon, Dionysos, Apollo, Herakles, Hephaistos and Helios.
