3,600-year-old mummy in Egypt

Archaeologists have discovered the 3,600-year-old coffin containing mummies is believed to be a senior general in Luxor, Egypt.

The Egyptian Antiquities Ministry said the ancient coffin and intact mummy were discovered by Spanish archaeologists when unearthing a tomb area in Luxor city.

According to experts, this coffin is from the 17th dynasty, around 1600 BC. The coffin is about 2m long, 40cm wide, the color is still fresh and still in good condition, AFP said.

Through preliminary examination and based on the carvings, experts believe that the person in the coffin is an important politician in this period. Mohamed Ibrahim, Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, said the feathers are rarely found on ancient coffins. These motifs represent the ancient Egyptian goddess Maat, who can determine the position of the dead in the afterlife.

Also in Luxor, this group of experts once discovered a wooden coffin of a 5-year-old boy living in the 17th dynasty.

Luxor is a city of more than 500,000 people located in southern Egypt. This is considered an outdoor museum with many ancient works such as temples and tombs of the pharaohs.
