US-Australia created an 'unprecedented' database of cancer

In the framework of the visit to Australia, Vice President Joe Biden on July 17 attended the inauguration of the Center for Comprehensive Cancer Research Victoria in Melbourne City.

At the ceremony, Vice President Biden announced a series of agreements between the US and Australia on establishing an unprecedented data sharing system to serve cancer research and treatment.

The system gathers treatment records for more than 8,000 American patients and 50,000 Australian patients from now until 2021.

Speaking at the ceremony, Joe Biden appreciated the contributions of Australian researchers to collaborative research on cancer treatment as well as the establishment of Victoria's Comprehensive Cancer Research Center.

Biden said this research collaboration will open a lot of breakthroughs in the fight against cancer worldwide. This is also Mr. Biden's personal goal, after his son died of brain cancer last year.

On the agenda, on July 19, Biden will hold talks with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney.

Next, on July 20, he will give a speech on Washington's important policies on US-Australia relations, including promoting cooperation between the two countries' military alliances.

It is expected that on July 21, the US Vice President will come to Auckland (New Zealand) and hold talks with the host Prime Minister John Key.
