Use electromagnetic waves to break the car engine
E2V has introduced a prototype device that can switch off car engines and other vehicles by electromagnetic waves.

Called RF Safe-Stop , this device emits radio frequency noise that disrupts the vehicle's electronic systems, thereby shutting off the engine safely. The BBC's E2V representative said that RF Safe-Stop could be used as a non-lethal weapon for the military, to protect key positions from the risk of suicide bomb attacks, or to block Dangerous vehicles drove into critical locations. Police can also use RF Safe-Stop in case of need to stop the car speeding.
The device was tested at Throckmorton Airfield Airport in Worcestershire. Accordingly, E2V has stopped using RF Safe-Stop engine of a series of cars and motorcycles. In one case, when a car runs at a speed of about 24km / h into the RF Safe-Stop range, the engine stops working and the car stops. According to the Engineer magazine, E2V's devices use infinite frequency L and S bands, and have a maximum coverage of 50m.
RF Safe-Stop is considered to be a more effective means of blocking vehicles than wheel blasting devices, often used by police and the military to block vehicles. The E2V adds that their equipment also works well for other types of traffic, including motor boats. However, because of the electromagnetic wave-based operation, RF Safe-Stop is disabled when applied to older models, such as the Land Rover 1960.
