Using Vertiver grass to effectively treat wastewater
The project 'Research using Vertiver grass to treat waste water from landfill and production wastewater' has a high applicability assigned by the Provincial People's Committee Hau Giang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, districts and towns implemented in some places.
The project was chaired by Master Huynh Tan Vu from the Center for Information and Technology Application (Department of Science and Technology), based on the nature of filtering and storing toxic substances in the country of Vertiver grass to wastewater treatment.
Wastewater treatment system using Vertiver grass is from 500-1000m 2 located at production facilities and landfills. Wastewater is fed into biogas and sedimentation ponds, leading to the treatment area is a system of small ponds.
Vertiver
Vertiver is grown around the pond and on the pond surface. At the beginning of the pond, the water filtration system is installed. Vertiver absorbs organic matter, heavy metals in wastewater. The output part of the pond system installs the irrigation pedestal to utilize the treated waste water to irrigate the grass and help the grass grow and grow long term.
After 6-12 months of implementation in a landfill and 2 slaughterhouses, the results of the wastewater sample test showed that the suspended solids in the water decreased by more than 70%, the toxic substances absorbed by Vertiver grass at the rate high. Treated sewage is qualified to bring into rivers and canals.
A pig slaughterhouse with a capacity of 10 heads / day will discharge 10m 3 of polluted water, the cost to treat this water by industrial system is about 5 million VND, with the waste water treatment system using Vertiver grass, only The fee will be greatly reduced.
Master Huynh Tan Vu said that this method of wastewater treatment plays an important role in reducing environmental pollution, reducing treatment costs to the lowest level and this is a biological measure so friendly to the environment. Fresh green Vertiver grasses at wastewater treatment systems also contribute to clean the surrounding environment.
