Venus has volcanic eruptions

A group of international astronomers led by Russian scientists have discovered four "flashing points" that have higher temperatures than the rest of the Venusian surface.

Four white spots float in the relatively young cracks called Ganiki Chasma. This region was photographed several times by the Venus Monitoring Camera tool, mounted on the Venus Express probe.

The scientists made the arrangement of images taken during the process of the probe moving in orbit and then calculating the brightness of the white spots. Four "flashing points" have higher temperatures than the rest of Venus's surface: 526-826 degrees Celsius compared to 426-467 degrees average. This is a clear sign of positive seismic activity.

All four spots are located near Maat, the highest volcano on Venus. Previously, scientists thought that the last eruption of Maat occurred 10-20 million years ago."Geologically, it can be said to have just happened yesterday , " said Evgeny Shalygin, leading the team of scientists. The image shows that the bright spots near Maat are the trail of modern lava flows, lasting nearly 30km.

Venus is covered in a dense gas curtain, thought to be the product of volcanic eruptions in the past.
