Video: Chemicals that degrade the ozone layer in the atmosphere

Researchers discovered large quantities of dichloromethane and dichloroethane in the atmosphere that could threaten the existence of the ozone layer.

Dichloromethane and dichloroethane are two chemicals that degrade the ozone layer.

Scientists looked at data in Taiwan and Malaysia and discovered the atmosphere containing dichloromethane. This chemical degrades the ozone layer surrounding the Earth.

The ozone layer helps protect the Earth from ultraviolet rays causing cancer from the Sun. Scientists also found large amounts of dichloroethane, another ozone depleting chemical.
