Video: Discover the oldest modern fossil outside Africa
Scientists yesterday announced the discovery of the fossil piece of the oldest modern person outside Africa.
Mysliya-1 fossils.
This finding shows that modern humans may have left African territory to reach other lands earlier than we thought.
The fossil, named Mysliya-1, is a piece of jaw that still retains some teeth, discovered in a prehistoric cave in northern Israel, a country in the Middle East.
Scientists estimate that Mysliya-1 fossils date to about 177,000 to 194,000 years.
Previously, the oldest modern fossil found outside African territory was estimated at only 90,000 - 120,000 years old. This means that modern humans may have left Africa earlier than we thought at least 50,000 years.
