Video: Dogs know how to distinguish emotions on people's faces

Research by Austrian scientists shows that dogs can recognize people's happy or angry emotions after being trained.

Scientists place half-cut photos of a woman with two happy and angry expressions on a small screen. 20 dogs in two groups are trained to recognize a type of expression.

To eliminate the possibility that they find differences from features such as teeth or wrinkles on the eyes, the research team cut the photo horizontally in half. Even if only the eye area or the area around the mouth is visible, these animals can distinguish between the right expression, even the faces they have never seen before.

According to the team, the dogs in the group chose a happy face to perform the task faster than the other group. They don't seem to like angry faces.

"We believe that in this exercise, dogs have saved what they have learned in memory. They recognize facial expressions based on that information," Science Daily quoted Corsin Müller yesterday, saying. team member, said.

In the 2013 trial, the researchers concluded that dogs could distinguish the face in a photograph.
