Video: Fire storm culprit swept the Earth 12,800 years ago
According to a new study, the fragments of a large comet collapse into Earth, triggering a violent fire storm 12,800 years ago.
Chemical traces indicate, 10% of the ground surface has been burned by fire.
The fire created a cloud of thick smoke and dust covering the sky, blocking the loss of sunlight, followed by a period of minor ice age. Cold weather lasts for 1,000 years, killing plants and large animals, causing the human population to decline
The researchers hypothesized the impact of meteorites after examining specimens in many places around the world. Chemical traces indicate, 10% of the ground surface has been burned by fire. Analysis of the level of chalk also indicates that pine forests are burned and replaced by poplars, a plant that grows on poor soil.
