Typhoon Bopha swept in the Philippines, 238 died

By December 5, the number of people killed by Typhoon Bopha swept on Minadao Island up to 238 people and hundreds were missing, according to AFP. This is the strongest storm hit the Philippines this year.

In New Bataan town, Lieutenant Colonel Lyndon Paniza said at least 142 people were killed and 241 others were missing. In neighboring Davao Oriental province there are 81 deaths, the remaining casualties scattered in 15 other areas on Mindanao Island.

The welfare minister Corazon Soliman described the scene after the storm as a scene of desolation. " There are very few houses that can stay behind the storm in the coastal town of Cateel," said Soliman. "We need to quickly transfer corpses, medicines, dry clothes and tents to people, for now." now they mostly live in the sky because the storm has blown away the roof and collapsed their house ".

Damage in New Bataan town is equally heavy after flash floods and landslides. Interior Minister Mar Roxas said a soldier involved in the rescue operation was killed, and six other soldiers were missing. Meanwhile, Minister Soliman fears disease could arise after the storm.

Davao Oriental governor said the town of Cateel and two other coastal towns are still isolated due to some collapsed bridges or trees and garbage covering roads. The rescue team is trying to clean up the road to open the way for rescue forces. Many areas on Mindanao island are still losing power and unable to contact the phone. Supply of food and clean water is limited.

Typhoon Bopha is considered to be the strongest storm to hit the Philippines this year. By December 5, at least 238 people were killed and hundreds were missing.
