Video: Large dust storms attack the United States
A large dust storm covered the area of Arizona, USA, causing the sky to become gray and many flights were delayed.
The storm swept through the city of Phoenix, Arizona, July 3. High dust walls cover many areas, causing traffic jams because of limited visibility. Strong winds move at 80km / h, causing many trees to collapse and power outages in many places.
24 flights must redirect from Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix to other cities. The airport spokesman said all domestic and foreign flights had to stop for about 45 minutes.
According to AP, this is the first dust storm to appear in this summer in this area.
Large dust storms, also known as haboobs , appear quite popular during the rainy season in Arizona from June to September each year. Dust storms often move with wind speeds of more than 100km / h, forming towering dust walls.
The atmosphere in Arizona is always so hot that raindrops cannot even fall to the ground because it has evaporated in the air. This phenomenon creates a cooler airflow above, making the winds stronger. When the wind is strong enough, it will carry dust and sand from the desert into the air creating a high wall, creating great dust storms.
