Video: Robot teaches calligraphy
Smartphones and computers are becoming more and more popular, so many people use less of their hands to write than before. And the Japanese are concerned that their calligraphy art will be lost, and now they have figured out how to use the robot.
In the survey in 2012, more than 60% of Japanese respondents said they were no longer able to write Chinese characters, one of the three types of characters used in modern Japanese text.
Professor Seiichiro Katsura from Keio University in Tokyo in an effort to preserve this art form has created a robotic arm, full of calligraphy skills.
The robot will guide Japanese children to write calligraphy, help them manipulate the wrist and control the pen when writing.
Katsura hopes that in the future, this robot can be developed to guide people through basic engineering operations in the mechanical and surgical field.
