Video: Super storm Big red star on Jupiter shrinks and changes color
The big red stain superhero on Jupiter is not only shrinking but the color also turns into a dark orange since 2014.
Large red stains shrink.
NASA used data since 1979 and tracks this diminishing storm. What surprised NASA, though , was that the large Red Spot narrowed up . NASA compares this with clay shaping on the turntable and how to turn clay into a taller and thinner one. The big red stain once contained just three Earths inside, but now there's only enough room for an Earth.
In terms of color change, the researchers said that it could be because the chemicals in the storm were brought higher and the ultraviolet radiation from the Sun caused the storm to be darker.
Scientists are not clear whether large red stains will stabilize or will completely dissolve in the future.
