Video: The unification of two white dwarfs

This video depicts two white dwarfs known as the RX Jo8o6.3 + 1527 or J0806 that are getting closer together, at a rate of more than a million miles per hour. As their orbits become smaller and smaller, unification will occur and this process releases huge amounts of energy in the form of gravitational field waves.

This pair of stars may have the smallest orbit of the previously known binary pairs. They make an orbit of just 321.5 paper, just over 5 minutes.
