Vietnamese doctor received the award of American Astronomical Society

Dr. Phan Bao Ngoc has just received the American Astronomical Society's Henri Chrétien Award 2007 for his work on hunting for brown dwarfs in the galaxy, with a completely new method.

The method, called " Maximum Shortened Individual Movement ", helped Dr. Ngoc find extremely light dwarfs (less than 1/3 of the mass of the sun) with very small individual movements in the sun's vicinity. , which conventional observation methods have not been able to recognize.

The award is named after the French astronomer Henri Chrétien, who, together with American expert George W. Ritchey, invented the Ritchey-Chretien telescope. The purpose of the prize is to recognize the innovations, new methods in astronomical research, the importance of the research problem with this scientific community and the promotion of astronomers' international collaboration worldwide. gender.

In 1992, a famous Vietnamese American - Professor Trinh Xuan Thuan, also received this award.

Dr. Phan Bao Ngoc (lecturer of Hue Pedagogical University) currently undertakes postdoctoral research at the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Taiwan.
