VN successfully built artificial bones
Scientists from Silicate Department, Department of Chemical Technology, Hanoi University of Technology have successfully produced biomedical ceramic glass materials for permanent transplantation, bone replacement in medical orthopedic, with durability equivalent to human bones.
This is the result of the State-level project, carried out from 2003-2005 by the Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Anh Dung.
Produced by Vietnamese technology, biomedical ceramic pottery is a material with very high biological properties compared to traditional biomedical materials (Titanium, special alloys, carbon materials, silicon .). . When implanting this material into the body, there is no rejection reaction, it does not irritate or disrupt the biological process of the living organism. In particular, this material has the ability to bind biochemically to living cells, helping the injured cells continue to regenerate and bind directly to the surface of the implant such as the body's bone.
After 2 successful experiments on animal implants, the research team has tested on patients' bodies at the Central Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, Tooth-Ham-Trung Trung Hospital. Nursing, K Hospital with the content: using materials to replace the ear bone ear sound transmission details; replace the middle ear bone details; replacement of root and repair of jaw bone; welding and removing the broken bone.
In all cases of biomedical ceramic implant surgeries for patients, there is no case of rejection. The patient heals wounds quickly, the ability to recover health well, especially the ability to recover the function of the treatment department is very high.
Principles for manufacturing biomedical ceramic glass materials are applied according to the technology of making glass ceramic materials. The main material for synthesizing materials including natural materials (white sand) and other materials is clean chemicals (calcium phosphate, aluminum hydroxide, boric acid, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, Potas and calcium fluoride).
These materials are weighed according to quantity and mixed well in the mill. After that, the raw material in the gas oven is cooked and refined in an electric furnace, and the catalyst is added to create crystalline germ and then completely melted into the glass making technology according to a suitable regime for realization. Show crystallization process.
Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung said: this is a new material direction, simultaneously meeting many technical and economic requirements to solve orthopedic materials - creating high quality images in health, replacing imported goods and Towards export, it is necessary to pay attention to state investment to develop production.
