Korea: Artificial breast implant with the first 3D printing technology

In the context of three-dimensional printing technology (3D) is being applied widely all over the world, Korean researchers have for the first time successfully implanted chest bone and titanium rib material with technology. 3D printing for patients.

The Chungang University Hospital in Korea said it has created artificial breast and rib bones with 3D printing technology and implanted patients, reconstructing the chest successfully.

The patient was a 55-year-old man, suffering from malignant soft tissue tumors in the chest bone and ribs. If this tumor is left untouched, it will be difficult for the patient to survive for more than six months.

The group of doctors at Chungang University Hospital conducted computerized tomography to determine the extent of breast reconstruction, and then collaborated with the Korean Industrial Research Institute (KITECH) to manipulate chest bone. Artificially suitable for patients with 3D printing technology.

Chungang University Hospital said the patient had a successful surgery on September 19 and is in the process of recovery.

This breast augmentation surgery with 3D printing technology is the first surgery performed in the country, and is the sixth in the world after Spain, Italy, USA, UK, China.

This artificial chest has a length of 28.6cm, width of 17.2cm, is the largest artificial chest in the world with successful graft surgery.
