Walk the beach, discover artifacts for 6,000 years
An English boy was excited when he discovered a giant fossil on the beach, The Sun reported.
Archie Wood, 13, originally thought it was ivory. I found fossils while holding a metal detector for a walk on Bexhill Beach, East Sussex, England.
Archie Wood, 13, found the giant ox horn fossil at Bexhill beach.
My family called the experts to the beach and they said this could be the horn of the American bison.
Neil Wood, Archie's grandfather, said: "He was very excited, he couldn't believe what he just found. Archie saw the fossil sinking under the sand, he pulled this big horn out."
Archie and he photographed fossils and sent them to the local government and an expert confirmed this was.
Neil added: "The expert said that the horn cost about 120-140 pounds (3.6-4.2 million), but after discussion, Archie felt that what should be done was to give it."
"We contacted the Bexhill Museum, and it's now on display."
Archie took a picture with him and the rare horn.
Museum experts believe this bison lived in a prehistoric forest ecosystem that once existed on the south coast of England.
Julian Porter, working at Bexhill Museum, said: "It could be an impressive animal. Based on the size of the horn, I think it's a bull."
"It's great that Archie gives the museum a horn for everyone to admire. Hope Archie will always love such history."
