Wat Rong Khun - a pure white Buddhist wonder like a fairy
With pure white and unique architecture, the temple has become a cultural symbol of the Thai Buddhist country.
Located in Ban Rong Khun, 13 km south of downtown Chiang Rai, Wat Rong Khun or White Pagoda is a new religious building built in recent years.
With pure white and unique architecture, the temple has become a cultural symbol of the Thai Buddhist country.
The temple's designer is Chalermchai Kositpipat - a Thai painter and architect who cherished a desire to build a temple entirely white to symbolize the highness of Buddhism.
Since 1997, when choosing a 3-hectare site in Chiang Rai province, Chalermchai has begun to realize his idea with Wat Rong Khun.
After nearly 2 decades of construction, Wat Rong Khun has appeared in a pure white, with a strange blend of traditional and surreal architecture, impressing strongly for those who come here.
Surrounding the main palace are the aquariums in the middle of the green grass, where sculptures are designed by Chalermchai himself.
Each statue is a symbol of different spiritual meanings of the Thai people.
The motifs decorated on the roof of the temple are created very wonderfully.
These mirrors represent Buddha's wisdom "shining all over the world and spreading to the whole universe".
Up to the present time, although the appearance of Wat Rong Khun has shaped quite clearly, the temple is still in the construction phase and will continue to be improved for many years to come.
As planned, when completed, the whole building will consist of 9 buildings including the main hall, the temple, the museum, the monastery hall, the teaching place, the booth and the comfortable rooms built on the total area. 12,000 square meters.
This will be a meditation center where people can study and practice Buddhism, imbued with the Buddha's teachings.
Although not built yet, Wat Rong Khun has become a world famous temple, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
