What does 'ding' mean on the plane?

If you ever fly, you will be familiar with the "ding" sounds that come out at different times during the flight.

Sometimes it was just a long bell before the seatbelt signs were turned off, sometimes changing to a two-beat sound. Of course they are not random, but secret codes between crew members.

"On our Airbus aircraft, you will hear a" boing "immediately after takeoff. This sound helps the crew know that the landing gear is closed. The second" boing "sound often appears when Seat belts are off, ' Qantas Airways explained.

Qantas also used a bell to inform the crew when passengers requested on-site assistance. The sound of 2 low and high beats is a sign that the crew is calling each other through the flight communication system. Three consecutive low bells indicate an emergency warning from the captain, such as the front with bad weather.

However, these meanings only apply to Qantas. There are no fixed rules for these sounds by each airline customizing its sound system differently, Airbus airline spokesman Kara Evanko responded to the Huffington Post.

United Airlines is an example. A signaling bell with passengers calling for support and a seatbelt sign on. The sound "ding-dong" means the pilot and stewardess calling each other through the system, said spokesman Jonathan Guerin.

For other airlines, the "ding" may indicate that the aircraft has reached a height of 3,048m, which is safe to use electronic devices , revealed pilot Patrick Smith. The sound also means that the plane is about to land and the crew should start clearing the cabin. Other sounds often come from internal communication between the crew and the cockpit.

Southwest Airlines spokesman shared that this sound is a private language between pilots and flight attendants. They use different sounds, but do not explain the meaning to ensure security. Passengers can be assured because it is just a communication between crew members.
