What kind of bacteria can kill hundreds of millions of people coming out from the North Pole?
A deadly bacterium buried under the Arctic for thousands of years may soon escape because the Earth warms.
According to the Daily Star, deadly diseases always have a big impact on people. Such a kind is currently hidden under the Arctic ice sheet and can rise once the ice melts.
Warning of deadly bacteria that can escape in the Arctic thanks to melting ice.
This bacterium was compared to the Black Death pandemic, killing millions of people in the 14th century. Notably, the Black Death also caused disaster just as the Earth warmed, according to Professor Peter Frankopan.
This message came after experts warned humanity of only 12 years left for global warming to not exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to the 19th century.
Overcoming this milestone, the climate will become exceptionally harsh, floods, droughts or record high temperatures will affect millions of people, according to the United Nations.
Professor Frankopan from Oxford University warned it would be difficult for countries to control global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. As a result, ice melted more at two poles.
The Great Black Death has risen at the time when the Earth warmed in the 14th century.
'Once that time comes, the problem is not that going to vacation will be more difficult or the number of immigrants increases , ' said Frankopan. 'The problem is that melting ice can release deadly bacteria, which sleep for thousands of years.'
In the 14th century, the Earth also warmed up to 1.5 degrees Celsius, stimulating the bacteria to grow.
It is estimated that 75-200 million people died of a pandemic in Europe and Asia. Pandemic reached its peak in Europe during the period of 1347-1351.
