While walking, the couple encountered a strange scene they had never seen before
During a picnic, a couple in South Carolina, USA were extremely frightened when they discovered a strange tree shaking violently on its own.
Jason Freeman and his wife were walking near the hotel when they came across a strange plant swaying back and forth even though there was no wind at all.
Freeman, filmed this strange phenomenon and said: "Okay, that's really starting to worry me. It's not the wind. Look at it."
The clip shows the man panning his mobile phone camera around to show everything around him being completely still. He then turned the camera towards the tree, which was still swaying from side to side.
"My God, that's crazy. Look how fast it happened. Oh my God, that was so surreal," Freeman said.
At one point, the man tried to stop the tree from moving by holding it still for a moment with his hand. However, when Freeman let go, the tree continued to move.
Freeman then posted a clip of this mysterious plant on YouTube.
Plants with pointed leaves can fluctuate violently in light breezes. (Photo cut from clip).
A study in the American Journal of Botany in 2001 titled "Oscillations frequency of pointed-leaved plants" explained this phenomenon as follows: " For pointed-leaved plants, they can oscillate very strong in light winds that humans cannot feel. That makes us mistakenly think that these plants know how to "dance ".
" The regulation of self-oscillation in upright-leaved plants, also known as pointed-leaved plants, can be explained by the balance in motion between torques within an appropriate amplitude ," the research article states.
