Lake Bellandur in Bangalore, India, is so polluted that white poisoning bubbles like snow and sometimes burn.
Lake Bellandur is polluted, bubbling with white poison
With an area of 36.4 km 2 , Lake Bellandur is the largest and most polluted lake in Bangalore city.Every time it rains, untreated chemical waste and garbage pouring into the lake for decades are churned into a thick, white foam.This layer of foam contains a lot of oil, grease and detergent, sometimes it catches fire, causing the lake to catch fire.(Photo: Debasish Ghosh).
Local residents are familiar with this unusual phenomenon. "Every time it rains and the water rises, the foam also rises, making the road dangerous. With a population nearly doubling to 10 million in the past two decades, local authorities cannot manage the pollution associated with growth. Bangalore has been dubbed the "city of thousands of lakes" but now has become "a thousand trash bins" .Lake Bellandur suffered a great disadvantage when it was at the end of the southern lake.Every day, the lake receives more than 490 million liters of untreated or untreated wastewater from households and industrial parks throughout the city.Reportedly, the foam on the lake surface this year is thicker and smelly than previous years.(Photo: Debasish Ghosh).
