Why do many people often tilt left when selfie?

Taking a quick look at people's selfies, you'll notice most of them are tilted left. Science calls this the pseudoneglect trend.

Researchers from University of London, University of Parma and University of Liverpool conducted a social study, analyzing about 3,556 selfies on social networks. They observed that when taking selfies, people tended to focus on the eyes, especially to the left.

This reflects a psychosocial phenomenon called pseudoneglect , meaning that attention to space tends to unconsciously shift to the left.

Research has also shown a link between behavior and mood. Our eyes provide information about what we are paying attention to and on the left is the best way to inform people about that mood.

Not only when taking photos, when the roof is broken, we also tend to turn the hair only on the left side of the head. This phenomenon is similar when artists apply the principle of focusing on the eyes in portraits.

The study uses a database of selfies of public photos uploaded to Instagram from Thailand, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States and Brazil. Research photos are naturally selected.

Out of 3,556 selfies, 1,931 (54%) had left eye in the center; 1,625 (46%) had the right eye in the center. Although the difference is small, the researchers say this is remarkable.

Professor of Optics and Visual Sciences - Christopher Tyler, University of London said that the main result of this study is to confirm the repeatability of pseudoneglect trends - previously encountered in the way portrayers paint now and now It repeats itself in selfies.

According to a 2014 study published in the journal Psychology, the tendency to pay more attention to the left side of the space is most evident when we perform the very simple task of dividing a horizontal line. Most of the time, we can't divide the center or the right side, but often to the left.

The phenomenon of pseudoneglect is similar to that of patients with impaired right hemisphere of the right brain with little attention left of space. They often bump into objects on the left of the path rather than the right.
