Why should you not apply ice when you have an injury?
In many cases, applying stones when injured makes it difficult for blood to circulate, making the recovery process long and ineffective.
Injured, not always ice
Since being launched by Dr. Gabe Mirkin in the 1978 1978 1978 The Sports Medicine Book, the RICE method has become a top sports secret for first- aid and treatment of injuries such as sprains, broken ligaments, cramps. However, according to Men's Health, RICE was not so effective and Mirkin himself spoke out that his research had many shortcomings.

Mirkin's RICE method consists of 4 elements: Rest (rest), Ice (ice packs), Compression (ice press), Elevation (lift). In many cases, RICE not only does not heal wounds but also makes you worse. The reason is that when you sprain or use excessive muscle, the body will regulate hormones to the injured area to initiate the recovery process. Stones and other cooling processes will prevent blood flow to the injured area, leaving you long.
To treat wounds more effectively, sports scientist Julio Veloso from Men's Health recommends following these steps:
- Gentle movement : Movement helps blood and nutrients circulate to the injured area, carrying away waste. You can imagine yourself drawing a letter in the air with a sore foot, hand or finger. Should start immediately after injury.
- Lift up : Try to lift the wound while sleeping, you will feel more comfortable and better.
- Bandages : Bandages carefully wound help you quickly move, move again without affecting injury.
- Treatment : Don't forget to find a therapist to bring your tendons and joints back to normal. You can also try Oriental Medicine treatments like acupuncture.
Dr. Mirkin recommends, if the pain is too intense, you can still apply the stone to the wound 2-3 times, 10 minutes each time and 6 hours before the injury. Also, if you're in the middle of a match, ice packs will help you lessen the pain to continue. However, it should be considered carefully and should not be ignored.
