Working more than 8 hours / day is prone to heart failure

Working overtime can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by 80%, according to research by scientists from the Finnish Occupational Health Research Institute.

Scientists analyzed 12 different studies from 1958 to the present. A total of 22,000 people worldwide participated in these studies. The results show that working for many hours can cause thousands of workers to suffer from cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Overwork can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by 80%

Specifically, those who work more than 8 hours a day are 40 to 80% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than those who work for less than 8 hours a day.

The risk of cardiovascular disease due to overtime depends on the different occupations and how the study is conducted.

Dr Marianna Virtanen, head of the study, said the increased risk of cardiovascular disease could be due to workers being under pressure when working for a long time. Other causes may be inadequate eating habits and less exercise due to limited rest periods.

In 2009, scientists from the Finnish Occupational Health Research Institute found that working for long hours can increase the risk of developing dementia as you get older. This effect is similar to the effects of smoking.

Middle-aged workers who work 55 hours a week or more have poor brain function when they score lower on the intelligent index tests than those who work less than 40 hours a week.

"There are a number of different mechanisms that can help explain the relationship between working long hours and the risk of cardiovascular disease ," Dr. Virtanen said on the Daily Mail.
