1,493 new viruses appeared in March
In March, there were 3,829,000 computers infected with viruses and 1,493 new viruses appeared. This is an alarming number of network security at this time.
100% of viruses appear in March with foreign origin
According to statistics from Bkav's virus surveillance system, all 1,493 new viruses appeared in March are originated from foreign countries. Most of them are viruses originating from China, the United States, Ukraine and Russia.
In 2007, out of 6,752 new viruses appeared in Vietnam, there were only 14 viruses originating from Vietnam (accounting for 0.2%).
With the Internet environment, the current spread of viruses does not depend on the geographical location of the countries. Users in Vietnam or in other countries also face the same risk of viruses, regardless of the source of the virus. Therefore, to effectively prevent viruses, users need to choose anti-virus software that can update the most recent virus patterns.
Virus Dasher continues to spread
Chinese Dashfer banner-insertion virus is still spreading in the network of many agencies and businesses in Vietnam. If a network computer is infected with Dashfer, other computers on the network experience banner insertion. Therefore, not every computer with this phenomenon is infected with a virus.
This makes it very difficult for network administrators to find and control computers infected with viruses in the network. Not only that, the infected computer can also control the entire data exchange process of other computers. This is also one of the risk of serious information insecurity for businesses.
BKIS Network Security Center said that in order to thoroughly handle this banner insert virus, network administrators must review and handle viruses on all computers in the network. The best way is to equip the body with an overall anti-virus solution.
Zero-day vulnerability threatens the network security of businesses
In March, some popular software appeared Zero-day vulnerabilities. The flaws were called Zero-day because at the time the vulnerability was announced, the software manufacturer had not yet released a patch, and users were not protected from these vulnerabilities.
Typically, a serious vulnerability in the Mdeamon mail server software version 9.6.4 and earlier. This is also a popular software used in Vietnam.
Exploiting the vulnerability of IMAP protocol in MDaemon version 9.6.4 and earlier, hackers can take full control of the server. More than a week after the vulnerability was announced, the manufacturer released the patch. Currently, many agencies and businesses in Vietnam have not updated this patch, so the network is still at risk of being controlled by hackers.
This is an immeasurable threat to the information system of businesses. To limit the development, businesses need to regularly monitor network security news to respond promptly.
