17 pyramids discovered in Egypt by satellite

Archaeologists discovered 17 pyramids in Egypt by analyzing infrared photos taken by artificial satellites.

BBC said, infrared photos help archaeologists discover underground works. In the early excavations, archaeologists found some works, in which two buildings could be pyramids.

" Pyramid excavation is the dream of all archaeologists ," said Dr. Sarah Parcak, an archaeologist working for the US Aerospace Agency in Alabama, USA.

Besides the pyramids, Parcak and colleagues also found more than 1,000 ancient tombs and more than 3,000 settlements of ancient Egypt.

Parcak is one of the first people to participate in space archeology - that is, apply the space exploration technologies to archaeological activities. Her team analyzed infrared images taken by artificial satellites in Egypt for more than a year. These satellites fly 700 km above the ground. They are equipped with powerful infrared cameras to detect objects smaller than one meter in diameter.

Infrared images also help professionals identify the types of matter that make up objects. Ancient Egyptians built houses and other buildings with bricks. Because bricks have a higher density than soil, the shapes of houses, temples and graves are clearly visible in infrared images. Parcak believes that she will discover many other ancient works.

' The works we discovered are close to the ground. There are many other works under the alluvium of the Nile , 'Parcak said.
