6 rules to know to save yourself and save people when swimming

Knowing these bathing rules can really help us save ourselves and our loved ones.

Know your swimming power

Swimming in the sea requires more energy and skill than swimming in the lake. The swimmers will have to cope with the waves and the currents in the sea. Therefore, if swimming ability is not really good, just bathe near the shore, avoid swimming too far, according to Reader's Digest.

Always have someone follow

One of the most important lessons recommended by experts when swimming is never to go alone. If you go swimming in a certain area, go with your friends or at least one other person to support each other when you encounter a problem.

Always in sight of rescue workers

Whether swimming in a lake, turning or anywhere, you should only swim in areas where lifeguards can observe. If there are no lifeguards at that time, you should not swim.

Notice the danger warning

Beaches will often have warning signs not to swim in certain areas. Therefore, the person bathing in the water before going to the water should observe whether there is any prohibition on the surroundings.

Notice the flow away from the shore

This is a very strong water stream, no more than 10 meters wide but can be longer than 750 meters. Offshore currents often appear along the coast. When caught up in the offshore flow, it is difficult to escape, especially for poor swimmers.

To get rid of the offshore flow, the first thing is to calm down and not try to swim in the direction of approaching the shore. Instead, swim parallel to the sea surface. This way of swimming will help us get out of the dangerous waters and reach the shallower waters, according to Reader's Digest.

Do not drink alcohol

People absolutely cannot swim when drinking alcohol. Alcohol weakens judgment and will make it impossible to judge what is a dangerous situation and how to escape.

Therefore, lack of awareness and stepping into the sea may end with disaster, experts recommend.
