61 Taiwanese people contracted H1N1 flu, 13 deaths in a week
In the context of the global outbreak of nCoV, Taiwan (China) may have to cope with a bigger pandemic from the H1N1 influenza virus.
According to Taiwan News, the Taiwan Center for Disease Control (CDC) said 116,705 people were hospitalized for flu-like symptoms at hospitals across the country in the past week, of which 61 confirmed cases of H1N1 flu.

Mr. Chuang Jen-hsiang, CDC Deputy General Director, said: " The H1N1 influenza virus , also known as the swine flu virus , is the main source of infection among the population in Taiwan, China, accounting for 84 , 5%. However, it will take another week to determine whether this pandemic will break out. "
According to Lin Yung-ching, a CDC doctor, 13 people aged 47-97 have died from H1N1 flu, including an over-80-year-old woman with cancer and chronic pneumonia.
Mr. Lin also informed that the lady had a fever in late December, 4 days after suffering from acute shortness of breath, eventually died of pneumonia and respiratory failure when being taken to the hospital.
This patient is the only person who has been vaccinated against the flu among 13 people who died from the H1N1 virus.
