64-core chip with 10 times the performance of Intel Xeon
With the time that the processor of the world's leading chip manufacturer needs to scan 1 GB of data, the product introduced by Tilera (USA) can scan 10 GB but only consume 1/3 of the electricity. .
Tilera has begun shipping Tile64 chips, which are equipped for high-definition media, switches and video encoding applications.
The name Tile64 means this chip contains 64 cores with tile (tile) architecture. The chip is traditionally designed, which means that the L1 and L2 cache are cached to store the same commands as the PC processor and each core is connected to the other cores through L3 cache sharing.
Connecting core with other computing elements is one of the most difficult stages. Intel struggled to find Core Duo processors through a single system transmission channel and AMD used HyperTransport superconducting technology.
Meanwhile, Tilera built a small switch in each core, called iMesh. iMesh has the task of directing data to switches as well as other processors, and Tilera claims that this technique can eliminate data on the chip.
Tile64, 600 MHz, will sell for $ 435, equivalent to mid-range quad-core Intel Xeon chips. The 32-core chip is expected to be available in mid-2008 and the 120-core version will be released later this year. Previously, Intel also mentioned 80-core chips but had no plans to bring products to market.
