7 steps to aid the victims on the road

First call support or 115 and then check the victim; Many people who suffer from vertebral fractures die when being carried on a stretcher or car due to an initial first aid error.

First aid steps for victims on the road

Doctor Hoang Bui Hai, Head of the Emergency Department and Positive Resuscitation Department, Hanoi Medical University Hospital introduced some basic knowledge to help first aid in injury on the street:

Step 1 : Quickly call the support person and call 115.

Step 2 : See if the victim has a cardiac arrest: Call unknowingly, stop breathing or breathe in yawning, no neck pulse. If there is a cardiac arrest, it is necessary to allow the victim to lie on his or her back gently, stretching his limbs, avoiding bending his neck . then squeezing the heart by placing two hands overlapping between the victim's chest and pressing hard, quickly, letting go maximum breast enlargement after each heart compress.

Pressing the heart continuously without rest, after 2 minutes someone changes. First-aiders need to do this until the heart beats, the victim is awake, breathes, or has an ancient pulse or until a professional lifeguard arrives. Pay attention only to move the victim to the hospital when the heart has beaten. If the victim is still awake or lethargic, still breathing, go to step 3.

Step 3 : Put the victim safely on his or her side, lying on one side, one leg crossed to the opposite side.

Step 4 : Fix the cervical spine, the cervical spine must be straight with the body axis, you can use 2 sandbags or 2 bricks to insert 2 sides of the ear when the patient lies.

Step 5 : Find bleeding wounds to stop bleeding by dressing with clothes and wires. With the victim bleeding in the head, the first aid must wrap the bandage around their head to stop the bleeding, but always keep the head fixed.

Step 6 : Fix broken bones such as femur, forearm with splints, help relieve the victim's pain.

Step 7 : Move the victim to the nearest hospital by ambulance, car, absolutely do not transport by motorbike; Hold the head straight with the body shaft during transport.

Note: It is necessary to protect the patient's spine when moving by a guardian to straighten the shaft with the body, a person from the armpit from behind, a bipedal of all 3 people back together, leaving the head, The cervical spine is always aligned with the body. In many cases, the patient remains alert, but his spinal cord injury is unstable, when he moves and gives first aid, the person who helps inadvertently brings up the victim, the neck is not protected, causing a broken bone marrow leading to the victim. Spinal stenosis can die immediately or have respiratory paralysis, paralysis of irreversible limbs. This is the easy mistake of a lifeguard who lacks knowledge.
