A 200 million year old fossil tree was discovered
Petrologists in the search process discovered a fossil tree in the mountains of Kon Tum. At present, a part of the timber has been moved to the storage area in Phuoc Dong, Nha Trang.
This is the largest fossil wood tree ever.
According to Ho Khiem petrologist, who currently holds a tree, the upper tree is a kind of pine needle buried under a 4m soil layer, only a very small part is revealed.
When excavated, the tree exposed to a length of 14m, diameter from 80 to 90 cm, weighs an estimated 12 tons, a diameter of 90cm has a beautiful wood color.
According to Ho Khiem, the fossilized time of that tree must be over 200 million years.
