A designer finds a way to make grilled meat with a unique washing machine

This Israeli design student thinks of that unique idea when visiting New York City.

During a visit to New York City, Iftach Gazit, an Israeli design student, spent some time with homeless people in Manhattan, to find out if their daily life was different from other residents. how.

During that time, he realized how important laundry shops are to serve 24/7 for homeless people. They are like a safe haven for unhappy lives. They came to measure not only to wash clothes, but also to get more drinking water, to charge electronic devices, to wash them clean and to take a little rest without anyone bothering.

"At that time, I started thinking: Where would a homeless person cook when living on the street , " Gazit said.

He wondered what it would be like if he had created a simple way of cooking for homeless people, even while they were at the laundromat. The good point of such a washing system is that the machine has just been washed and dried after washing. Gazit brother took advantage of that heating function (when the dryer temperature could reach 60 degrees Celsius) to make food.

First, try putting Italian pasta and green beans in plastic containers, dropping them into the washing machine with dirty clothes. After washing, he said that the food in the box was so bad that it was hard to eat, put it in the washing machine for drying and heating only made the food taste worse.

Gazit learns how to cook food called sous-vide that is very suitable for washing machines and clothes drying systems already available.

Failure with that method, he continued to try another way. Gazit learns how to cook sous-vide food - the cooking process with food is contained in a sealed vacuum bag, placed in a moderate heat environment and cooked for a long time. Extremely suitable for washing machine systems with clothes drying available.

He tried this with a barbecue, placed in a sealed waterproof plastic bag and dropped into the washing machine. He admitted that the meat was not very delicious, but it was completely edible, better than the Italian and green beans. Next step, Gazit will try beans and vegetables, and find ways to improve his bag.

Iftach Gazit calls these bags Sous La Vie , there will be three types of foods: salmon with teriyaky sauce, vegetables mixed with olive oil and salt, barbecue with garlic and some other vegetables.

Although this series of products has not been officially produced, but gradually, he wants to bring this product to the vast majority of people. Some homeless people have come to Gazit, saying they want to try out this unique product first.

"I am trying to make it work better, so it really benefits the homeless," Gazit said.
