A number of US government agencies
Due to concerns about compatibility, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have not allowed tens of thousands of employees to upgrade to Windows Vista.
Michael Baum, a spokesman for NIST, said: " For the time being, we don't allow Windows PCs to install Windows Vista to be allowed to connect to the intranet ."
" We are currently testing whether NIST applications are fully compatible with Windows Vista. But not only Vista but also new Microsoft products like Internet Explorer 7 and Office 2007 must go through the process. Similar test ".
It is perfectly normal for regulatory agencies to not rush to upgrade to the new application software version. Large unit organizations often conduct compatible tests before making an upgrade decision.
Vista's status also happened with Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The DOT representative also said that his agency has now banned employees from upgrading to Windows Vista, Office 2007 and IE 7. "This is not a mandatory technological situation. We will make a decision. upgrade when necessary ".
In a recent statement, Microsoft said it is working closely with government agencies to assist them in adopting its new products.
Meanwhile, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is considering using another product to replace Microsoft products. Among them is the Linux operating system and Google's online application suite.
The Windows Vista version was officially launched in November last year and launched globally in January this year. IDC estimates that there are now about 90 million versions of Vista installed on the PC. The analyst predicts users will quickly adopt Vista and businesses will be more cautious.
Some organizations will wait about 18 months to check the compatibility of applications before deciding whether to upgrade or not.
