After a record heat, Sydney put lightning on

Images posted on social networks show like "lighting" the whole city.

After days with the highest temperature ever reached for 80 years, Sydney city of Australia "welcomes" unusual thunderstorms.

According to the BBC, it spilled through the city from the end of yesterday and this morning 9/1. Continuous thunderstorms caused people to wake up and go online to talk about the chaos despite the fact that meteorologists rated the situation as not particularly serious.

Sydney citizen Dave Rasmus, waking up before dawn, described the thunderstorm with lightning almost "lighting the city".

According to weather monitoring companies, more than 4,000 lightning strikes have been recorded throughout the city. News.com.au news page even posted that Sydney "received" 4,600 lightning strikes in just 3 hours. Comes with lightning is heavy rain and strong winds that many places lose power.

Emergency services said they received more than 150 calls for help. Lightning is also thought to have burned the house of an elderly woman, who was saved in time, according to local media.

According to AAP, bad weather disrupted road and air traffic and forced the Sydney International Tennis Tournament to postpone the match.

People are warned to stay indoors and stay away from windows because thunderstorms are still going on.
