Age can be determined through blood

Blood will become a new tool for forensic experts to determine the age of the perpetrator or victim at the crime scene.

" We can prove that we can use blood to calculate the age of the person." Our method could be applied in situations where blood smears appear at the crime scene , "said Manfred Kayser , study of the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands, claims.

The methods of calculating the age of people in current cases depend on the presence of teeth, bones, hair and other body parts at the scene. Keyser and his colleagues will be especially helpful in cases where age information can provide clues about the identity of an anonymous person.

Popular Science says the method of calculating blood age is related to T cells in the blood. This is a type of cell capable of identifying hazards from the outside of the body through the proteins on the cell surface. T-cell DNA is constantly rearranged to create a variety of proteins. The process that creates byproducts is a ring DNA molecule. The number of ring DNA molecules decreases with age.

By calculating the number of DNA molecules in the blood at the site and comparing it to a gene with a constant number of DNA molecules throughout life, forensic experts can calculate the age of the person.

However, the method of determining the age of a person with blood is not absolutely accurate in all cases, because it can distort the age to 9 years (increase or decrease). But this technique is still useful when the police want to identify an anonymous person. The information it brings will help the investigator narrow the subject's age over an 18-year period.
