The collaborative research group between the University of Edinburgh and the Medical Research Center (UK) investigated the reaction rate of more than 7,400 people, starting in the 1980s and following for 20 years thereafter. The average age of those studied was 46. In addition to this factor, a number of other indicators such as alcohol intake, smoking habits, blood pressure and weight were also taken into account. At the end of the study period, nearly 1,300 people died.

Experts found that those with the slowest reaction rate were 2.6 times more likely to die prematurely.

According to the research team, rapid response can be a sign of intelligence, and from there will lead to smart lifestyles.

"This work demonstrates a link between intelligence and processing speed , " said Dr. Geoff Der, a co-author of the study.

'Smarter people also tend to be better educated and do jobs with better internship or resources. They also take better care of themselves. "
