AI can help you find recipes just from a photo

Researchers have developed an algorithm that helps you identify foods and find the right recipes.

Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Qatar Computer Research Institute have developed a new mathematical algorithm that can give you a recipe with just one picture. The system is not perfect but it has provided recipes from many uploaded images.

The image recognition system was trained to capture the image and find out what ingredients needed in the formula.

The system will analyze more than 1 million recipes to choose the recipes that best fit the dish in the photo. Recipes and images are taken from allrecipes.com and food.com, which are stored in a database called Recipe1M, accessible from the Pic2Recipe website.

With Pic2Recipe, users upload photos of the food they want to have recipes, and use the study machine, AI analyzes images to find the correct recipes. The system usually gives you some recipes based on the certainty of AI when it detects the similarity between the input image and the image in its database.

According to Neowin, the image recognition system has been trained to capture images and find out what ingredients are needed in the formula. By training AI, researchers achieved a 65% success rate with the system in the conducted trials.

The researchers acknowledge that this system needs a long way to go before it is perfect. "There are still a lot of difficulties in identifying certain foods," says Nick Hynes of MIT, "There is a big difference between near and far shots, as well as the detail of the ingredients. dish".

The ultimate goal of the project is to improve the health of the people. Researchers hope to get food information that people eat and determine the nutritional value, calorie intake of the meal when that information is not available.
