The international program of The World at Night project has just announced the winning photos in the 2014 global photo and sky photo contest.
The International Photo Contest on Earth and Sky is held annually, starting in 2009 organized by the science and education team of the National Astronomical Observatory and Global Astronomy Month.
With the aim of contributing to protecting the night sky as part of human natural heritage, this year's competition attracted more than 800 photos from all over the world, professional and amateur at all ages.
The photos are divided into two topics: The beauty of the night sky (the night sky serves as the backdrop for stars, planets, or cosmic events) and the contrast of the beauty of the night sky with question light pollution problem.
The highest award in the category of the contrast of the beauty of the night sky with the Against the Lights problem belongs to photographer Giorgia Hofer, Italy with the photo 'Light in the sky' , taken at Cibiana Pass in Dolomites (Alps), northern Italy.
The highest award for the beauty of the night sky belongs to photographer Luc Perrot with the photo 'Over the Top', capturing the night sky and the volcano on the island of Réunion, France.
