Air conditioning with a wooden table

French designers have introduced a specially designed table that acts as a room air conditioner without electricity.

Air conditioner

Jean-Sébastien Lagrange and Raphaël Menann named the table ZEF (Zero Energy Furniture) . The table looks like most of the other furniture, the table is made from a solid oak and 8 foot corner. However, the difference is that it can save energy .

"We want to see if it can solve the climate and energy issues from the scale of furniture, " Lagrange told Wired.

Under the table, Lagrange and Menad placed the transformed materials (PCM) in the middle of the wood and the anodized aluminum layer . These materials soften when the temperature in the room reaches 21.7 degrees Celsius. When high temperatures exceed the threshold, PCM absorbs excess heat. They harden when the temperature drops below 21.7 degrees Celsius, releasing the stored heat and creating a noticeable change in room temperature.

Basically, the table acts as a "sponge for air conditioning," absorbing heat and then releasing heat to cool the room. According to the inventors, the ZEF can reduce the need for temperature increases by up to 60% and cooling by 30%, saving costs and energy.

According to Business Insider, in areas where temperatures change from hot to cold in the short term, ZEF is a very useful solution . For example, if a room increases its temperature on a hot day and quickly reduces its heat at night, the table will adjust more appropriately. It can also be used in less-regulated areas, or where this device is thought to be pathogenic to humans.
