All humans are mutant creatures

Every human on earth has at least 100 mutations in DNA, genetic material at the molecular level.

Deoxyribonucleic acid (abbreviated DNA or DNA) is a nucleic acid molecule that carries the genetic information coding for the growth and development of life forms (including some types of viruses). During reproduction, DNA molecules are duplicated and transmitted to the next generation.

According to the BBC, for more than 70 years scientists have always tried to accurately estimate the rate of change in DNA. However, it is not until now that people can make reliable predictions thanks to new technology in the field of gene sequencing.

Scientists at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK) studied several thousand genes in the Y chromosomes of two Chinese men. These two people have distant relatives. Their common ancestor was born in 1805. By monitoring the differences between the two and the size of the genome (the entire body's DNA assembly), the team concluded that each person had 100-200. new variant.

' Finding mutations in DNA is much harder than finding ants in the emperor's granary ,' said Dr. Yali Xue, a member of the research team.

New mutations can cause dangerous diseases like cancer. Scientists hope that Xue's discovery will help them find ways to reduce the number of mutations and provide new insights into human evolution.
