AMD's revenue report yesterday (October 18) showed that the world's second largest PC chip processor manufacturer continued to sink into heavy losses. This was the fourth consecutive quarter AMD lost.

Accordingly, the third quarter of this year, AMD losses total 396 million. Losses caused AMD's stock value to lose $ 0.71 in value, surpassing the $ 0.62 / share forecast for Thomson Financial. The loss included the cost of $ 120 million to buy ATI Technologies. In the last 9 months, AMD has lost a total of 1.61 billion USD.

AMD's third-quarter total revenue reached $ 1.632 billion, up 23% from the same period last year. This number has also surpassed the figure of 1.52 billion USD previously forecast by analysts.

The main reason for the increase in AMD's revenue in the third quarter was the appearance of the quad-core Barcelona server chips in September after many delays. Quad core chips are AMD's flagship product in the battle against rival Intel. Overall in the third quarter AMD sold 2 million quad-core chip products.

Meanwhile, on October 16, Intel announced its third-quarter revenue report, claiming its revenue increased 43% to $ 10.09 billion.
