American company reinvents car wheels, eliminates rubber tires
The American startup has literally reinvented the car wheel. They developed a new type of wheel that eliminates the need for polluting rubber tires.
Air Suspension Wheels (ASW) are effective with construction vehicles, and in the future may be extended to cars using conventional rubber tires.
Global Air Cylinder Wheels (GACW) , an Arizona-based startup, has developed a new type of wheel that eliminates the need for polluting rubber tires.
Prior to GACW, many companies tried to develop new tire solutions, such as Tesla possibly switching to airless tires on their Model 3, but so far none have been successful. .
GACW's invention of the Air Suspension Wheel (ASW) is the brainchild of inventor-dynamics engineer Dr. Zoltan Kemeny. The patented ASW is a mechanical wheel, constructed primarily of steel with air suspension in the wheel via cylinders. It is both environmentally friendly and cost effective. The ASW is designed to last the same life as the vehicle it serves. Then, unlike a rubber tire, it can be fully recovered or recycled.
GACW is currently focusing on the $30 billion mining construction tire (OTR) market. OTR rubber tires used in the mining industry are very expensive, a typical 3 ton tire can cost $75,000 for only 6-9 months of use. "That's a huge expense for a product that doesn't last long ," according to the company. Meanwhile, ASW tires last as long as the vehicle itself and thus save up to 60% in cost.
Another key feature of ASW is a significant reduction in Rolling Resistance. This will make the engine burn more efficiently and reduce emissions. For electric cars, like Tesla, this means driving range can be extended by up to 30% on the same battery, which is a very significant percentage.
Rubber OTR tires also pose a safety risk when explosions often occur. But with ASW, tire overheating and exploding is a thing of the past.

It is expected that this new type of wheel will revolutionize the mining industry. The ASW wheel will also be difficult to destroy by bad guys, and can even be used as a bullet shield for military vehicles.
Last, not least, OTR rubber tires are extremely polluting. In the mining industry, most rubber tires are not recycled. At the end of their natural life, OTR rubber tires are often burned or buried in the ground because recycling is complicated, dangerous and expensive. A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health estimates that tires account for up to 10% of all microplastic waste in the world's oceans. A report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature even estimates the figure as high as 28%. Meanwhile, ASW tires are 100% recyclable.
Initially, GACW targeted construction tyres, but the company also had plans to enter the much broader global tire market. Currently they do not have any competitors in the global OTR field.
Outside of this market, ASW technology can be applied to all vehicles currently using traditional rubber tires, worth an estimated $322 billion by 2022.
To date, GACW has raised $3 million and owns four patents, along with 13 other patents pending. The company is also testing multiple ASW products with mining partners, with an evaluation period of 6-12 months.

From 2022, they plan to increase production of ASW tire products and plan to fully commercialize this new tire by 2023.
The company said: 'At this point, our plan is to expand the distribution network and really start 'attacking' the tire industry.
As governments around the globe are putting increasing pressure on tire manufacturers to dispose of old products, GACW says this is a golden time for its products to be recognized by the industry. This industry accepts. Companies like Caterpillar, Hitachi or Volvo, Komatsu can become partners or future customers of GACW.
The company says: 'Our air suspension wheels are an effective and viable alternative to rubber tyres. They are up to 60% more cost-effective, safer and better for the environment than rubber tires'.
The company's crowdfunding campaign on the Start Engine page offers investment opportunities from $248.5, at $1.75 per share.
