American doctors believe people can read minds in 2038

A doctor at the University of Washington thinks it is possible to transplant tiny devices into the brain that help people communicate and read each other's minds.

Dr Eric Leuthardt of the University of Washington said that it would become possible in about 20 years, News.com.au reported today. According to him, telepathy is not just talking through the brain but also the ability to read the thoughts of others.

The simplest way to achieve this goal is to continue to shrink the computer until it creates a powerful and small machine that can be inserted into the human brain. "Given the pace of technology change, it's not unreasonable to assume that in about 20 years, everything in a cell phone can be put into a small piece of rice , " Leuthardt said.

The device can be implanted in the brain in the least affective way and will perform the necessary calculations to become an effective brain-machine interface, he said. Leuthardt is working on this issue with computer scientists.

People have to overcome many challenges before the telepathy becomes reality, according to Gerwin Schalk, one of Dr. Leuthardt's collaborators. "What you really want is to be able to listen and talk to the brain in a way that the brain does not distinguish between information exchanges , " Schalk explains.

Still, he believes this will be possible in the future. "When that happens, our lives will change, and change is unprecedented , " Schalk added.

Another problem that the research team encountered was finding capital. Leuthardt believes that after solving financial problems for the project, he will develop an implantable device that people can afford.
