Americans are cheated online 2.8 billion USD
The National Consumer Association and the Network Security Association (USA) said that the shopping season is coming close to making consumers "feverish" and rushing to the network to search for gifts. But 1 in 10 people become victims of online fraud.
According to research firm Gartner (USA), the number of fraudulent e-mails has doubled over the past two years and has been billed by consumers for billions of dollars. Gartner estimates that this year, 24.4 million Americans have clicked on such an e-mail, compared with 11.9 million in 2005, of which 3.5 million have imparted sensitive information to fraudster (last year this figure was 1.9 million). On average, every victim "gave away" hackers 1,244 USD (two years ago this number was 257 USD).
" There are few people who think they are hooked by online scammers ," said Avivah Litan, an analyst at Gartner. " But they have lost and lost more than before. The amount of money that each victim has flown by 5 times more than two years ago and the thieves are always aimed at people with high incomes, or trading on the Internet ."
Experts warn of the dangers on the Internet never before, no matter how vigilant the software and users are alerted. They recommend that you point to a reputable sales site and avoid using an open wireless network, but apply a VPN system. Also, be careful when filling out financial information.
