An Giang creates rice varieties that are flood-resistant and drought-resistant

After more than two years of implementation (from April 2011 to now), An Giang province has successfully researched the scientific topic 'Choosing to create good quality rice varieties, able to withstand flooding, drought tolerance and pest resistance The main harm to An Giang province '.

The topic is chaired by Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lang - senior researcher of the Mekong Delta Rice Institute.

The topic has helped An Giang province to initially create promising rice lines to be put into production under climate change conditions. Since then, it is the basis for the province to select a trial of 24 lines grown in the field, proceeding to select 2-3 new rice varieties registered with the national variety.

Specifically, the study has studied and created rice varieties with tolerance to flooding, drought, resistance to major pests and diseases of good quality such as Swarna sub 1, IR64 Sub 1; short term drought resistant varieties such as OM 4900, OM 6162; capable of being submerged for 10-20 days, resistant to major pests and diseases and imported breeds such as WAB 880-138- 18-20- P-HB . These rice varieties have a growth period of less than 90 days. , for rice with a meager rate of less than 5%, whole rice over 50% .

To get this result, the topic focused on collecting and analyzing 100 local season rice varieties and 44 short-term high-yielding rice varieties.
