Successful restoration of rice varieties Bao thai Cho Don

On October 31, in Phuong Vien commune, Cho Don district (Bac Kan), the Center for Experimental Biotechnology in High-Tech Agriculture - Institute of Agricultural Genetics held a acceptance test of the topic 'Research to restore Bao rice variety. Con Market, pregnant in Bac Kan province ".

>>>Bac Can preserves rare native indigenous sticky rice varieties

Lua Bao thai is a typical indigenous rice variety in Cho Don district, Bac Kan province and has many precious properties such as rice, delicious, bold and tolerant to local unfavorable factors.

However, in actual production today, rice varieties of the old fetus have degenerated, seeds of low quality, uneven, unstable rice quality. Cultivation techniques are not reasonable and backward, which are also reasons for low productivity, quality and production efficiency.

Facing that situation, the Center for Experimental Biotechnology in High-Tech Agriculture - Institute of Agricultural Genetics has implemented the project "Recovering Bao Thai Cho Don rice variety" by selecting varieties according to three crops carried out on area of 10ha in Phuong Vien, Quang Bach and Cho Don districts.

Case one, collect 1,000 lines to select 600 lines. In the second crop, choose from 600 lines of crop one to experiment and select 60 experimental crops in the third crop on an area of 10ha, to bring the best Bao thai rice variety, yield and quality to serve commercial seed sources at Bac Kan province.

Planting rice lines that have been rehabilitated on the area of 10ha of rice land in Phuong Vien and Quang Bach communes (Cho Don district), the project implementation group has obtained satisfactory results, productivity of 60 lines The selected rice in the third crop is stable in the range of 48-50 quintal / ha, increasing by 3-5 quintals compared to the pre-restored rice variety. The project has trained 300 farmers in Phuong Vien and Cho Don.

Master Trinh Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Director of the Center for High-Tech Agricultural Biology Experiment - Institute of Agricultural Genetics, Chairman of the project 'Research to restore Bao Thai rice variety Cho Don, Bac Kan province' , said know the project to restore Bao Thai Cho Don rice variety, help preserve and develop the local specialty rice variety, the project builds a process to restore the required rice varieties, a cultivation technique process and transfer to the people involved in the project and the participating units, the results of the rejuvenation of Bao rice variety in Cho Don increase the productivity and quality of specialty rice of the province, helping farmers grasp the knowledge of restoration. varieties and technical procedures for intensive farming increase productivity.

Dr. Do Tuan Khiem, Director of Bac Kan Department of Science and Technology, affirmed that Bao Thai rice, after being restored, will contribute to improving the lives of local farmers. The traditional cultural values of the variety are also restored. Local farmers will have better awareness of the value of local genetic resources, which will participate more actively in the conservation of local rice genetic resources in particular and agricultural biodiversity in general.
