Testing many new rice varieties in spring 2013
In the spring crop of 2013, at the New Product Research Center in Dong Cuong Commune, Dong Hung District, Thai Binh Seed Joint Stock Corporation (TSC) tested 86 new rice varieties.
Candidate varieties include 56 hybrid rice varieties and 32 pure rice varieties to select varieties with short growth time, resistant to external conditions, good pests and high yield, good quality rice to supplement adding to the provincial breeding structure in the coming years.
Through monitoring and evaluation, TSC has selected a number of high potential varieties. It is the TBR27 variety that grows in the spring season 120 days, the season 105 - 110 days, equivalent to Bac Thom variety No. 7. TBR 27 spawns in a strong, compact, beautiful shape, harder than Bac Thom No. 7, standing leaves, concentrated flowers, large cotton, medium grain, long tapered seeds, dark brown shells, white tissue. In particular, TBR27 has good resistance to pests and diseases, especially blast in spring and leaf blight. As in the 2012 crop, Bac Thom No. 7 blight is quite heavy but TBR 27 does not suffer. Estimated spring 2013 TBR 27 yielded 55 quintals per hectare, 10-12% higher than Bac Thom, rice cooked with rice TBR 27 was delicious, pliable and fragrant. TBR 27 is also the only variety in the Vietnamese pure rice conglomerate that currently has the same aroma as Bac Thom 7.
Especially the pure rice variety TBR 225, if compared to BC15, TBR 225 has many advantages, the yield and quality of rice equivalent to BC15, the spring crop in 2013 is estimated at 75 quintals / ha, good intensive farming can 80 - 90 quintals / ha / crop, delicious, flexible, tasty rice, but the growth time of TBR 225 is 5-10 days shorter than BC15, pest resistance; Especially blast in spring is better than BC 15. TBR 225 has good branching, standing and hard leaves, concentrated flowers, large and long cotton, long and medium grain. This is a complete replacement of the varieties TBR1, Q5, and can even be replaced with BC15 in the future.
In addition, in the spring of 2013, TSC also included a test of pure rice variety TBR 288 with a growth period of 120 days, a crop of 100 - 105 days, equivalent to HT1 variety. TBR 288 average branching, standing and hard leaves, concentrated flowers, large, long cotton, small tapered seeds, medium ranked, brown husks, good pest resistance. Rice cooked with TBR 288 rice is delicious and flexible. The productivity of spring crop 2013 is estimated at 60 quintals / ha, good intensive cultivation can reach 75-80 quintals / ha / crop.
The TBR 117 variety has an average of 115 days for the spring 2013 crop and 95-100 days for the crop, which is very suitable for growing crops. Although cooked rice with TBR 117 rice only reaches the average level, the variety has very remarkable advantages such as good tillering, vertical and hard leaves, concentrated flowering, large and long cotton, very good pest resistance. . Good intensive cultivation can reach 80-85 quintals / ha of spring crops.
According to TSC's testing results, the above rice varieties are those with short and medium growth days, high yield and good rice quality, in line with Thai Binh's crop structure. Especially, TBR225 has many advantages over BC15, such as 5-10 days shorter growth, better resistance to rice blast disease, yield and quality by BC15.
